Amateur Radio are you qualified?
Ok, so your grand Dad was or is a ham radio buff, should you join this distinguished group?
Just look at all the people who have lived and died and never knew amateur radio either existed or was possible. So, why would you believe your life could be made better or more enjoyable by joining this group of now mostly conservative, constipated and under educated men.
We say men, because since its inception, the hobby is dominated by males, now elderly men, with an avergae age of 65 and getting older by the days.
So, what do these folks look like. Well, elderly and aging would be the first distinguishing characteristic.
They exist in most countries , with now, no real technical qualifications required. Morse Code was banished years ago, but many die hards continue to pound the brass keys, which today, have largely been replaced with electronic keyers.
So, do you qualify.
Lets use a very simple formula, your age followed by the addition of your IQ.
The minimum scores must be lets say 65 +95 or 160.
Younger folks, could be IQ of 135 + 30 = 165, but experience has shown IQs in this hobby are usually 100 or less, and younger plus intelligent people would shun this hobby as they would classical music and old Jerry Lewis movies.
